NAAMA MI joins MSMS IMG section

NAAMA Michigan CME Lectures

Keeping up with our annual tradition, this year our chapter hosted two CME dinners. The first one was in March and was held at Fairlane Club in Dearbon. Members and guest physicians from the Dearborn area were updated on the latest in the Managaement of Hypertension by Dr. Sameer Dabbous, Head of Cardiolog y Deaprtment at Oakwood Health Systems. Our second CME was held in Flint with guest speaker Dr. Mouin Khoury, Director of the Office of Genomics and Disease Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Khoury's presentation "Implications of the Human Genome Project for Health Practice" was well recieved by our diverse specialty members who were preset at the event.

Women in Bussiness Workshop

Our chapter partnered with The Arab American and Chaldean Council (ACC) in hosting a special and motivational evening highlighting women’s role in business and the importance of supporting women in leadership roles. Read the full story.

NAAMA Michigan was invited to participate in this forum as an Arab American healthcare organization to provide the medical point of view of the disease as well as means of prevention and awareness in the Community. Read the full story.

Teen Health Day

For the second year in a row, our chapter hosts "NAAMA's Health Day" at the ACCESS Health and Research Center in Dearborn. Our members performed health screening exams as well as public education to teenagers and school age kids. This year we were able to include dental hygene as part of our health day. Our dentists volunteers headed by our chapter secretary Samer Dirani D.D.S. performed dental exams and distributed free toothbrushes, mouthwash and dental floss.

NAAMA in the Bahamas

Due to the unfortunate cancellation of NAAMA’s international convention in Tunis this year, NAAMA Michigan organized an international medical symposium in the Bahamas. The symposium titled "Electronic Medicine: Health Care in the 21 st Century" was held during the period of the cancelled convention.

Many of members who already had planned for their vacation to coincide with the convention joined our chapter at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas. Members from Texas, California, Louisiana and even Ontario enjoyed the sunshine and family fun at the resort as well as attending the informative scientific sessions that provided an update on the latest technologies in electronic medicine. Speakers addressed topics varying from electronic medical records to telemedicine.

 

NAAMA-Michigan visit MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine

As a part of a proactive campaign to introduce NAAMA to schools and colleges across the state, delegates from NAAMA Michigan initiated a visit in July to Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Read the full story.

Two Steps Closer to the Cure

More than 1200 people gathered on Sunday August 28th, 2005 at the Detroit Zoo for the second annual NAAMA's Walk for Women's Cancer held by the National Arab American Medical Association benefiting the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center .  Read the full story.
